My Summer of Love


Set in contemporary Yorkshire, it charts the relationship that blooms one hot summer between two very different 16-year-old girls, Mona (Natalie Press) and Tamsin (Emily Blunt).
Mona is working class, rebellious, bored with life and with the newfound religious convictions of her ex-con brother Phil (Paddy Considine). Tamsin is well educated, spoiled and cynical. Each girl is wary of each other's differences when they first meet, but this coolness soon melts into mutual fascination and attraction.

Kunsten at græde i kor/ The Art of Crying


The director of the film claims that this film is a domestic drama-comedy-horror movie, based on the celebrated novel by the Danish writer Erling Jepsen.
South Jutland, the early 1970s. Life isn't easy for 11-year-old Allan. His father has “psychic nerves” and regularly threatens to kill himself. His mother has given up, his older brother has moved out and the family's small dairy store isn't doing well. When his older sister stops spending the night on the couch with their father, it's up to Allan to keep the family together. His father lives for the times he gets to recite his famously eloquent eulogies and make the mourners weep in chorus. Soon, Allan is lending a hand to make sure there are enough funerals to keep his father happy.

When the Road Bends: Tales of a Gypsy Caravan

Partly a concert film and partly sociological study, this documentary travels between concert venues and cultures to give an inside look at Romani (Gypsy) music. It follows five top Romani bands during their tour in the United States before accompanying the musicians to their home countries, where the joys and struggles of their domestic lives are captured.

En Soap/ A Soap


32-year-old Charlotte could have it all, but she doesn't want any of it. When she moves away from her boyfriend, she happens to become the upstairs neighbour of the transsexual Veronica. Veronica prefers to keep to herself with her little dog and a romantic soap show on TV, while Charlotte gets through the nights with one-night stands. An assault, a new bed and some white curtains bring the two of them together and they end up as the main characters of their own turbulent love story.

Paul Dans Sa Vie/ Paul in His Life


A documentary by Remi Mauger.
Paul is almost seventy-five. An old bachelor, he is a farmer, a fisherman and the local beadle. He lives on a farm from another age with his two younger sisters, both single too. This year, they've decided to retire. "They'll leave a gap in the landscape." The landscape is that of the Hague Cape. Mans vīrs Andrejs Saharovs/ My Husbans Andrei Sakharov


Andrei Sakharov - father of Soviet hydrogen bomb and Nobel Peace Prize winner.
His widow Yelena Bonner and the last secretary general of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union Mikhail Gorbachev are two brightest participants of this indirect debate in the film, which not present facts and their interpretations but also use unique KGB materials.
Andrei Sakharov`s widow does not tell her memories about a genius but about her beloved husband. This documentary is unique report because of the fact that she avoids from publicity and interviews.
This documentary is a French-Latvian co-production directed by Inara Kolmane.

Idir Dha Shaol/ Between Two Lives


A documentary about Irishman - Willie Walsh from Connemara who left Ireland in 1968 and ended up in London being homeless. Willie has lost everything, he tells about it in his own language - Irish. The language is the only thing he still has.

Dardenne Brothers film that is pessimistic from the beginning and it gets worse when the action of the film starts to develop.
A young girl has given a birth to a baby, after a child delivery she has no appartament any more because her boyfriend has rented it to strangers, to get some money her boyfriend decides to sell the baby.

Vai viegli būt jaunam?/Is It Easy to Be Young?


A bit similar documentary to "The Road to God Knows Where". This documentary also have a continuation. The name of the second part is "Vai viegli būt..?"/ "Is It Easy to Be?". The first part of the documentary is taken 1986 but the continuation was taken in 1998. "Is It Easy to Be Young" tells about high-schoolers looking for their places in life, a young mother worried about the future of her daughter after the Chernobyl catastrophe, a young man believing in Krishna (being religious was generally discouraged by the Soviet government, not to mention any 'unusual' religions), young adults returning from having been forced to fight in the war in Afghanistan and having become ones of 'the lost generation'.
This docimentary got several awards.
The direcor of the first movie is Juris Podnieks, but the second on is directed by Antra Cilinska.

Road II

Two documentaries about teenagers in Ireland. The first film was taken in 1988 during unemployment and emigration perid in Ireland, other in 2001 when there has been an economical progress in Ireland. "Road II" is a continuation for a film "The Road to God Knows Where". Both films show the same people.
The director of these movies is Alan Gilsenan.

This film, that is made from seven short movies by eight directors(Mehdi Charef, Emir Kusturica, Spike Lee, Katia Lund, Jordan Scott and Ridley Scott, Stefano Veneruso, John Woo), is dedication for all children arround the world that are suffering from famine and are pressed to fight alone for their existence.

The director of this movie is Mika Kaurismaki from Finland. Some part of the action takes place in Latvia so there are involved some Latvian actors(Kristine Nevarauska, Aleksandrs Radzevics and arround 50 people who took part in the movie as wedding guests) as well.

MOSKAČKA/ MOSKATCHKA


A documentary about one area of Riga -Moscow suburb or Moskatchka* as people have used to call it. This place is one of the most dangerous of Riga but nevertheless it has a special aura.
The camera has shooted short pieces. These short movies put together show bright and unexpected story.
* This area at the beggining of the 20th century was a place where workers used to live, there was a concentration camp for Jews during WW2 and during the USSR there lived Russian speaking inhabitants.

Krišana/Fallen


Latvian actors(Egons Dombrovskis, Nikolajs Korobovs, Aija Dzērve, Andris Keišs, Vigo Roga) and a German director-Fred Keleman show a man`s feelings and actions afterwords he has passed by a woman whome he didn`t stop by commiting a suicide. This movie is black and white.

Detour/Ringtee

The movie that is not a masterpiece from Hollywood, because it is made in Estonia, but is still a masterpiece.
This feature film will be presented for a wider audience at the begining of the next year.
There are Estonian stars appearing in this movie such as Tanel Padar(the singer who brought the victory for Estonia in the Eurovision song contest) and others not so much known names for a forigners.
The direcor of this movie is Dirk Hoyer who has also been a director for a Latvian movie "Sas:karsme".
